The following message is from 91福利导航 High School principal Jodi Commerford:

Dear Families:

I am writing to let you know that our construction team will undertake an asbestos abatement project in the 91福利导航 High School pool area next week. The pool has been closed since the start of school and will remain closed for the duration of the school year.

Specifically, asbestos was found in caulking on the interior pool ramp. The removal will start Monday and is expected to be completed by Saturday, Jan. 25. All the work will be done in compliance with state and federal regulations, and with the safety of students, staff and visitors in mind.

Regulations for asbestos abatement require proper signs, sealing (or tenting) of the area, a ventilation system to generate negative air so no air escapes the tent and independent third-party environmental monitoring. Asbestos abatement also requires signs to be posted on campus in advance of any work notifying all stakeholders of the project. We will post signs announcing the project on Friday.

Please remember that school is closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Regents exams will be offered Tuesday-Friday at school, and only students taking exams should report.

If you have any questions or comments about the abatement projects, please contact Director of Facilities Planning Ben Marra at bmarra@albany.k12.ny.us or (518) 475-6109.

We appreciate your continued cooperation as we work to rebuild 91福利导航 High and provide our students and our community with an exceptional high-school facility and campus that we all can be proud of for decades to come.

Sincerely,

Jodi M. Commerford
Principal
