About CTE
91福利导航 High School offers 21st-century career and technical education (CTE) programming that ranges from students taking single classes in an area of interest to students completing a career pathway. Students enter “pathways” in skilled trades, applied sciences and technology that prepares students for an entry-level job, college or both.
CTE subject areas that students can take include automotive technology, business, construction technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, human services, health sciences and pre-engineering.
Articulation agreements
Several of our upper-level CTE courses have articulation agreements in place with colleges throughout the region and the state, which gives students the opportunity to earn credits or advanced standing should they choose to enroll.
CTE pathways
91福利导航 High students can complete one of 10 CTE pathways. Seven are endorsed by the New York State Education Department. Three are in the process of getting state endorsement, a professional “Good Housekeeping” seal of approval indicating that students who complete the program have mastered entry-level industry standards through hands-on class study, book learning and on-the-job training.
Students in CTE programs have the potential to earn a Technical Endorsement on their diploma, which demonstrates that they have developed technical skills and a high level of competency in that field. Students earn the endorsement by meeting the following requirements:
- Completing a three-year CTE program;
- Earning 22 New York State required credits;
- Passing five Regents exams; and
- Passing all categories of a technical assessment.
91福利导航 High seniors also have the opportunity to take part in work-based learning through the Career Exploration Internship and the Career and Technical Education Cooperative Work Experience programs.
Both offer students an opportunity to be part of a work environment in a career of interest.
Public Notice of Nondiscrimination
Each year, the City School District of 91福利导航 offers career and technical education programs at 91福利导航 High School and Abrookin Career and Technical Center. These programs are designed to prepare youth for a broad range of employment and training services and are offered under the guidance of certified teachers, counselors, and cooperative education coordinators. The following is a list of programs being offered this year:
- Automotive technology
- Barbering
- Construction technology
- Cosmetology
- Culinary arts
- Health sciences services
Criteria for admission is based on students enrolled in 10th grade, which qualifies them to take the level 1 course in the selected pathway. In order for a student to advance through the pathway, they must successfully complete level 1 to move to level 2, and level 2 to move to level 3. Initial placement is based on student interest and is advertised via our Curriculum Fair and school counselor outreach with individual students. Some students in grade 11 also can access CTE courses on an adhoc basis and student interest; however, they would not be able to complete the CTE pathway.
All career and technical education programs follow the district’s policies of nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex and disability in all programs, services, activities, and employment.
