Our Community School at Sheridan Prep
Our school, along with all other Community Schools in the district, follow a five-pillar model. This model is designed to help transform our building into a neighborhood center providing additional support and services to students and families during and beyond the regular school day.
The five pillars of focus for all our Community Schools are:
Expanded Learning Opportunities | Family Partnerships | Comprehensive Supports | Targeted Student Supports | High Quality Teaching and Learning
Information on the programs we are implementing at our school are available below. For additional information on any of our programs, please feel free to contact our Community School Site Coordinator:

Our programs
Sheridan Prep's vision is to provide opportunities to all of our students and their families that are enriching and engaging. Our Super Star Clubs program was designed to do just that, and offers more than a dozen sub-programs born of teacher, student and parent voices. All sub-programs were designed to provide an enriching expanded learning opportunity, that each student can use to translate into their world experiences, and apply to academic concepts to encourage qualitative and effective learning.

Families have indicated that they desire Sheridan Prep to provide more opportunities for them to learn about and support their preparation for their students' post secondary education journey. In our attempt to respond to this request, the leadership team recognized that there is a larger gap than we anticipated. While we are working to continue to respond to the needs of the families' requests, we also want graduates of Sheridan Prep to know that we will continue to provide support and mentorship to them throughout middle and high school. 4E has been designed to provide a response to and support of all the above recognized needs.

When surveyed, 91% of our families have expressed a need to be able to advocate on behalf of their children and in support of others, and LEADE is comprehensive program designed to allow for just that. With that in mind, our Parent LEADE (Learning, Educating and Driving Equity) programs create various opportunities for parents to engage and grow in their involvement in their child's education.

Student attendance at all grade levels has been directly impacted by access to instructional tools throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The Attendance Matters program is a compilation of subprograms that will work to support our families by addressing specific socioeconomic needs/gaps that are having direct and undesirable effects on student attendance, and ultimately, their academic performance. Persistent systemic racism, lack of quality healthcare access, generational poverty and barriers for families to access all educational opportunities have to be identified and addressed. While we cannot solve every problem, we working every day to provide culturally responsive and equitable access to resources for families.

Nutrition education and access continue to be a huge need in our building. This program creates an opportunity for parents to be able to access grocery items monthly in addition to nutrition education resources. Parents choose what grocery items are best for their homes, and students choose all of the snack items for their respective classrooms. Our staff are all able to participate in this program as well as utilize the nutrition education resources.
