The following is an important update from Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School Principal William Rivers:

The leadership team at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School continues to reflect upon our daily procedures and make adjustments designed to improve outcomes for our scholars. In collaboration with CDTA, the following changes to our dismissal procedures will take effect Monday, April 11.

  • Time between class will shift from three minutes to two minutes.
  • The additional time gained from this modification will be added to period 9, where we will implement the following staggered dismissal:
    • Walkers and the first CDTA bus will dismiss at 2:52 p.m.
    • We will dismiss our CDTA students one bus at a time. The remaining bus lines will dismiss in staggered order through 3 p.m.
    • First Student riders, student pickups, clubs and athletes also will dismiss at 3 p.m.

We will provide students with a training during our morning announcements in preparation for implementation of these new dismissal procedures. Here are the key notes to discuss with your child at home this weekend.

  • Students should plan to go to their lockers prior to period 9 to gather belongings and ensure an efficient exit of the building.
  • Students should plan to exit the correct doors from their period 9 class. The following information will be included in our training announcements:
    • Walkers – D doors, at 2:52 p.m.
    • CDTA – C doors, per bus color announcements
    • CDTA riders in Physical Education classes – B doors, per bus color announcement
    • Student pickup – B doors, 3 p.m.
    • First Student – A doors, 3 p.m.
  • Students should only ride the bus they are assigned to and should exit the building only when they hear their bus dismissal announcement.
  • Students will not be permitted to get on and off buses and must remain on the first bus they enter.
