91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High School seniors taking Civics and Public Engagement spent class Wednesday at a community partner fair in the library, where they met one-to-one with representatives from a dozen local advocacy organizations.
The goal of the fair was to help students identify a social justice mission they are passionate about that can be part of their civic action requirement for the class.
Throughout the year, and with guidance from their teachers, the students – most of the senior class – will network with the advocates and their connections to build their own social justice network for their project.
Seniors who successfully complete their social justice project will earn a Seal of Civic Readiness on their high school diploma.
Wednesday’s fair grew out of a partnership between 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High, the People’s Perception Project and the 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ NAACP.
Representatives from both groups were there, along with people from In Our Own Voices, Poor People’s Campaign, The RED Bookshelf, Capital Region Community Resources, Freedom Unshackled, Community Matters Inc., 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ Institute of History and Art’s 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ African American History Project, All of Us, YouthFX, the International Center of the Capital Region and Embrace Thy Crown.
