91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High School seniors taking Civics and Public Engagement learned lessons on Wednesday about the balance of power as they delved into their own social justice projects.
Students heard from community advocates about their work to balance the scales of justice. Speakers throughout the day included Rev. Joseph Paparone of the Poor People’s Campaign, Jacqueline Lake Sample of Black Dimensions in Art, 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ Common Council President Corey Ellis, and 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ Common Council Members Alfredo Balarin and Owusu Anane.
The speakers’ presentations were the product of a partnership between 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High, the People’s Perception Project and the NAACP.
Students are working on their senior capstone project – a personal social justice project about an issue they care about that also demonstrates what they’ve learned in school.
