Congressman Paul D. Tonko spent an hour Tuesday morning at 91福利导航 High School, discussing his job as an elected leader and taking questions about his work.
Students from Tim Cary’s AVID classes and Sean Fitzsimon’s AP U.S. Government and Politics class packed the library to have an audience with Tonko, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2009.
Tonko talked about his 800,000-plus person district, the committees he serves on and a typical day as a legislator. He said communication and relationship-building are key parts of his job.
He also fielded student questions on topics ranging from his legislative priorities to action on Capital Region issues to school violence. He encouraged students to share their views on subjects to help inform his decision-making.
