Major General Daniel J. Christian, a Capital Region native and deputy chief of staff of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, visited with students in 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ High School’s JROTC program on Wednesday afternoon.
The cadets each had an opportunity to introduce themselves and talk about their reasons for joining JROTC and their plans after high school graduation. Major General Christian, who grew up in Lansingburgh, and other soldiers in his visiting group shared their own educational and military backgrounds, and answered questions that focused on the cadets’ future career goals.

Army Training and Doctrine Command, or TRADOC, was created in 1973 and is headquartered in Fort Eustis, Va. TRADOC focuses on four primary functions:
- Recruiting and training soldiers, and supporting unit training
- Developing adaptive leaders, both military and civilian
- Guiding the Army through doctrine, and
- Shaping the Army by building and integrating formations, capabilities and materiel
Major General Christian has served as TRADOC's deputy chief of staff since 2020.
