. She is one of 13 educators in the greater Capital Region to receive the honor this year from among more than 400 nominations the station received. (Social worker Ava Holt from William S. Hackett Middle School also is a Ch. 13 2022 Top Teacher.)

DeHart has taught in the City School District of 91福利导航 for more than 30 years. Early in her career, she taught at the former Street Academy and the former Harriet Gibbons High School. She was nominated by fellow teacher Kris Foote, who said, “There is no question that this teacher deserves recognition as one of the Capital Region’s best teachers.”

DeHart was active in 4-H as a child, where developed her passion for cooking, sewing, education and family, and went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in home economics education.

During her years in the district, DeHart taught a variety of family and consumer sciences (FACS) classes. She also designed costumes for the 91福利导航 High Theatre ensemble and was a class adviser when at Harriet Gibbons.

DeHart has written state curriculum and test questions for state teacher exams in FACS. In addition, she holds positions on the boards of the New York State Association of Family and Consumer Science Educators – which presented her with distinguished service and Teacher of the Year awards – and the New York State Association for Career and Technical Education.

“I love what I do. I can’t imagine doing anything else,” DeHart said.
