The City School District of 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ will shift to a full day of distance learning for all students Friday due to the weather forecast, which is calling for extreme cold temperatures and wind chill throughout the day.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Friday morning. In alignment with the district’s Weather Emergency Procedures, the district considers altering a school day as wind chills approach -25 degrees.
Extreme cold air temperatures and wind chill can cause frostbite on exposed skin in about 30 minutes in adults at -25, and in as little as 10 minutes in adults at -40. It takes less time for children, and frostbite can occur in children even before temperatures and wind chills dip into these extreme numbers.
All students are to log in to their classrooms via the Google platform Friday.
The district’s 15 “grab and go” meal pickup locations will be open for students and families Friday. Meals for multiple days will be available.
