Craft shared with the students that he writes books that he wishes he had as a child - stories with a Black protagonist that aren’t historic or tragic and, most importantly, books with characters to whom our students can relate. Craft is a New York Times bestselling author of “New Kid,” “Class Act” and "School Trip," and the first graphic novelist to win both the prestigious Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Author Award.
He will meet with Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School students on Tuesday and William S. Hackett Middle School students on Wednesday.
Additionally, “Family Literacy Night with Jerry Craft" will be tomorrow (Tuesday) from 6-8 p.m. at Hackett. The event is open to readers from middle school to adulthood who are connected to Hackett, North 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ or Myers.
