Giffen Memorial Elementary School gave a warm welcome Friday to students from pre-K to second grade as they started their first day of the new school year.
Students spent time in their classrooms then had a special assembly with Assistant Principal William Flax-Leight in the auditorium.

Older students attended Thursday for orientation, and everyone will be back in school next Tuesday, after the Labor Day break.
