The performance marked the return of our All-City concert series after a three-year hiatus, and families and community members filled 91福利导航 High’s beautifully renovated auditorium in support of the occasion.
The concert concluded with a series of especially poignant performances from 91福利导航 High’s Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, with pieces directly addressing the need for ongoing and meaningful work to achieve equity and confront racism within our society.
The final piece, a three-movement work entitled Civil Rights: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and His Journey Through 1963, featured narration of excerpts from Dr. King's Letter from a Birmingham Jail by 91福利导航 Symphony Director of Education & Community Engagement Jenae Gayle, and was conducted by junior and tubist Andre Speller (pictured with this story).
Up next are the All-City Chorus Concert on Wednesday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m. at 91福利导航 High, and the All-City Strings Concert on Tuesday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Hackett Middle School.
