superintendent's contract through 2021-22

The City School District of 91福利导航 Board of Education has extended the contract of Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams through the 2021-22 school year, adding two years to her original contract in recognition of her positive impact on the district and community during her first 10 months on the job.

The extension does not include a pay increase.

Adams, who came to 91福利导航 from America’s fifth-largest school district in Clark County, Nev., leads the Capital Region’s third-largest school district with about 9,500 students (She is pictured at right addressing students and families at the Sixth Grade Moving Up Ceremony on Friday at Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science and Technology [TOAST]).

“We believed when we hired Kaweeda Adams that we had found the right person for the right job, and our experiences over the past year have proved that to be the case,” said Board President Sue Adler. “We believe she is the experienced, focused, energetic leader that our school district and community need and deserve, and we are excited that she has agreed to this contract extension.”

A third-generation educator and a native of Shreveport, La., Adams came to 91福利导航 in August 2017 after 28 years in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas. Clark County serves about 327,000 students in southern Nevada.

“I appreciate the support and the confidence you have in me,” Adams said following the board’s unanimous approval of the contract extension Thursday night. “I am looking forward to continuing the hard work that we are doing – and the right work that we are doing – on behalf of all of our students and families.”

According to the list of Capital Region superintendent salaries that The Business Review published June 15, Adams ranked eighth in salary ($197,000), 50th in benefits ($41,577) and 14th in total compensation ($238,577) for the 2017-18 school year.

With the additions in deferred compensation included in the contract extension, Adams would be 29th in benefits and eighth in total compensation ($248,334) among the area’s 75 superintendents included in the Business Review list.
