Wealth of talent ahead during 'Arts in Our Schools Month'

March is "Arts in Our Schools Month," and you can experience the talents of City School District of 91福利导航 students in a variety of exhibits, concerts, musicals and other performances in the coming weeks.

Friday, March 1

91福利导航 High School senior Elli Sol Strich is featured as WMHT-FM’s March 2019 Classical Student Musician of the Month. Tune in to 89.1 WMHT-FM or 88.7 WRHV-FM on Fridays just after 7 a.m. after “Composer’s Classroom” or just before 6 p.m. after “From the Top.” Strich is a French horn player who has held first chair in 91福利导航 High’s Wind Ensemble since freshman year. She also is a member of the Empire State Youth Orchestra. Her interview will air throughout the month. You also can .

William S. Hackett Middle School will present its spring musical performance of “Little Mermaid Jr.” in the Hackett auditorium at 7 p.m.

Saturday, March 2

The annual Empire State Plaza Student Art Exhibit -- featuring more than 350 pieces of artwork by district students -- runs through March 18 at the Empire State Plaza South Concourse.

Wednesday, March 6

The district’s top elementary, middle and high school orchestral students will take part in the All-City Strings Concert at 6:30 p.m. at Hackett Middle School.

Thursday, March 7

Empire State Plaza Student Art Exhibit reception, 5:30 p.m., Empire State Plaza South Concourse.

Saturday, March 9

The 91福利导航 High Jazzmanian Devils -- the school's advanced jazz ensemble -- are the headliner for the 91福利导航 High School PTSA's Falcon Arts Festival from 7-11 p.m. at the the 91福利导航 Elks Lodge, 25 S. Allen St. The event also will feature singing, dancing, artwork and more.

Wednesday, March 13

The top band students from elementary, middle and high school will take part in the All-City Band Concert at 6:30 p.m. at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.

Saturday, March 16

The 91福利导航 Marching Falcons, the marching ensemble for the City School District of 91福利导航, will be putting on their collective Irish Saturday at two local St. Patrick's Day parades. The first parade is at noon in North 91福利导航, starting and finishing at American Legion Post 1610 on North First Street. Their second parade is the annual city parade, beginning at 2 p.m. at Central Avenue and Ontario Street and proceeding down Central to State Street, finishing by Broadway.

Wednesday, March 20

The top choral students will perform in the All-City Chorus concert at 6:30 p.m. at Myers Middle School.

Saturday, March 23

The annual New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) festival will be held at Myers Middle School. Student performers from throughout the district will have their music skills evaluated at by a judge. Auditions will begin at 9 a.m.; school music teachers will let students know what time they are slated to perform.

The annual Winter Guard 91福利导航 Show will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the 91福利导航 High School gym; The 91福利导航 Marching Falcons’ winter guard will host 16 teams from around the region.

Tuesday, March 26

The Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School Jazz Band and Mixed Chorus will perform on Tuesday, March 26 on the Empire State Plaza Concourse at 1:15 p.m., part of Music in Our Schools Month activities sponsored by the New York State School Music Association.

Thursday, March 28

The mission of the City School District of 91福利导航 is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves approximately 9,500 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at 91福利导航 High School.
