It’s National Computer Science Education Week – but that’s every week for students at Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST)!
On Monday, first-graders in Sara Gonsiewski and Linda Serapilio’s classes did something extra-special to acknowledge the week. They’re studying space in class, and guided by instructional coaches Debra Calvo McNicholas and Marlena Klien, the young computer scientists spent an hour writing code and designed their own space scenes on their Chromebooks. Retired longtime TOAST teacher Betsy Tanenhaus also was on hand to assist.
TOAST students in all grades will take part in an “hour of code” this week, setting aside an hour to complete computer science coding projects related to subjects they’re studying.
